Since my mom's and my sister's birthdays coincide in a week, we celebrated it twice at an Italian restaurant in Balayan, Batangas --- Chez Deo Ristorante Italiano at Gliceria.

The restaurant proper looks like a two-storey old house. It is much comparable to the houses during the time of our grandparents in which the floor is made of wood parquet. There are plastic chairs and tables set outside as well. They have an open kitchen so one could very well observe how his or her food is prepared.

Another interesting fact is that they cook their homemade pizzas in a classic pugon. The place wasn't very crowded on both times that we visited, the service was quick and efficient. We had the following:

Jack Daniel's Beef Ribs, P1000
This was a hearty slow cooked beef ribs with barbecue sauce. It is usually served with 4 cups of rice but since we also ordered pizzas and pastas, we opted not to have the rice anymore.

Mare Monte, P250
Mare Monte is an olive oil based pasta with mix seafood such as shrimp, mussels, and baby octopus tentacles. It also has french beans and fresh tomatoes. Among the pastas that we ordered, this was my most favorite. I just love the range of flavor that the savory garlic, seafood, oil, and Parmesan cheese create. Yum!

Arabiata, P200
I liked this pasta because it has a kick of spiciness from the chili flakes. Arabiata is a tomato based pasta in pomodoro sauce.

New York Style Pizza, P350
Their pizzas have won me over because of the nice crust. It is perfectly thin and crunchy. The New York style pizza is loaded with a bit of every little ingredient in the kitchen. For toppings, it has fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, capsicum, black olives, onion, pepperoni, ham, bacon bits, and the list could go on and on and on. But my favorite was the formaggi pizza. It has seven kinds of cheeses namely Gorgonzola, sharp cheddar, cream cheese, provolone, smokey Dutch, mozzarella, and Parmesan. I thought that there was a bleu cheese in the mix but I was proven wrong as I checked the menu. Oooohh how i love bleu cheese. Formaggi pizza was the family favorite we ordered a total of 4 of it.

We only had one dessert since we were headed to a coffee shop after dinner. The pana cotta was perfectly wobbly. It was very creamy and not overly sweet.

Overall, I could say that we had two pleasant visits on this restaurant. The staff were polite and assertive. The service did not take too long. The ambiance is comforting and most importantly, the food was divine. It was priced accordingly and the servings were not too small nor too much. If you are in the area and looking for a nice place to dine, I highly recommend you to visit this place.
