Who doesn't love cake? It has been a symbol of celebration from all over the world. Plus let's be honest, sugar/sweets are beyond addicting, aren't they? Luckily, I have a friend who makes fabulous cakes. Mind you, they don't just look good they taste even better!
Kristel's is a bake shop located in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro but the owner *slash* baker often come here in Manila to make cakes for various events. She started this business a few years back but it was just recently that I finally tasted a piece. I am so proud of how far her baking skills have gone so far.
They offer cakes for all sorts of occasions. Here are some samples of her creative juices.
Birthday Cakes
Holiday Cupcakes
Doll Cakes
Cupcakes
Cupcake Towers
Wedding Cakes
I urge you to try out Kristel's cakes. It is not just affordable but I'm pretty sure you'll get more than your money's worth. Trust me I know the baker, when she starts baking for you she will fully give her time, attention, and heart into it.

Oooooohhh for the love of dimsums and xiao long bao!
I have always loved dimsums. I often joke that whenever I go to an all you can eat restaurant, it's not gonna be sulit for me because I only eat dimsums.
The Queen and I went to Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila to devour some authentic didididimsums!
Our first stop was the Dong Bei Dumpling.
Upon entering, we were welcomed by these ladies in apple green who were currently making dumplings. We were confused whether the restaurant was functional at that time as it seemed like they were just setting up for operating hours.
We ordered our absolute favorite, xiao long bao. It was freshly made as soon as we ordered.
We also had some of their other dimsums which were equally good and fresh as the xiao long bao.
After finishing the dimsums in five minutes we went to our last stop, the Cafe Mezzanine.
We were half full when we reached Cafe Mezzanine but that didn't stop us from checking out their xiao long bao and siomai.
Well, what can I say? Both restaurants served mouth-watering, savory, and authentic dimsums. It is as good as you can get considering that it is the Chinatown in Manila. The travel was a bit exhausting though due to the unending heavy traffic but I'd say it is all worth it.

The Babe and I went for a quick lunch at The Rock in Don Antonio, Quezon City. I didn't realize that this area has a lot of restaurants until we drove there. I wouldn't be surprised if this place will be hailed as another Maginhawa food street.
We were in the mood for some Japanese food so we chose Hanako.
The place was quite alright. I just didn't like the service because it wasn't as warm as I expected it to be. The waitresses were talking loudly to one another. They did not totally neglect our presence which, in a way is good but a little more care wouldn't hurt. Food was served in a flash though. Thumbs up!
I am trying to lose weight so I just ordered a salad. The components of this dish were fresh but the Japanese mayonnaise was way too overwhelming.
It was swimming on mayonnaise. It would have been perfect had they not drown the fresh cucumber, mango, and crab strips in the mayo pool.
The Babe had a fuller meal, a bowl of chicken katsudon. The meat was tender and tasty. It was savory and sweet as any katsudon in town.
This roll was too salty for my liking but we finished it nonetheless. Overall it was an okay experience. It wasn't too special a meal but considering the price, I'd say it is a steal.
Here is a copy of their menu :)

Our favorite local stars were dressed to impress at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel for the 9th Star Magic Ball held on September 12, 2015. It was so classy for the Star Magic Ball organizers to choose neutrals and nudes for this year's theme. Everyone looked so ravishing but these are my top favorites on the red carpet:
Ellen Adarna
Tootsy Angara in Rajo Laurel
Isabelle Daza in Vania Romoff
Jodi Sta Maria in Hannah Kong

That same day when I met my soooper friend, I still had energy to meet my biii. We were in the mood for thai and we know just where to get it --- Jatujak. There is an actual Jatujak in Bangkok which is the largest weekend market in the world. It is a haven for bargain hunters and Thai food lovers. I should know, I had been there.
But this Jatujak restaurant that we found is just located at The Block in SM North EDSA. This place is significant to us as this was where we planned our first out of the country trip together together with our bestfriend.
Chicken Pad Thai, P175 |
Sampler Appetizer, P198 |
We had the platter for starters which has shrimp cake, fish cake, and Thai spring rolls. I love the freshness of the spring rolls enhanced by the coriander leaves for garnish. This platter was served with three different delicious sauces. Their pad thai was pretty good and authentic too.
The service was not bad too. This is absolutely my to-go place whenever I crave for thai food.

My soooper friend and I had a quick breakfast date at Maginhawa Street. We decided to try out the Breakfast Bin restaurant which was a tiny intimate place along the food street. She brought her boyfriend along thus making me the unwilling third wheel again! Naahhh just kidding. I love spending time with these two :)
I had one of the skillet works which is their take on the traditional omelette served with toast. It was nice and the vegetables were truly fresh and crunchy just the way I like it. You can add P45 for a brewed coffee.
Bacon Skillet, P130
The place was really small. There were like 4 or so tables inside but some more seats available outside. There's not enough space to move around but pretty good ambiance if I may add. The service was pretty good. The staff were aware that they have a limited number of seats. They kept on checking with the waiting line outside without regretting the needs of the customers inside.
It was a nice chitty chatty breakfast.
